First Racing Day of the 117th Season at Rostov HippodromeOn May 12, 2019 Minister of Agriculture and Food of Rostov region Konstantin Rachalovskiy and General Director of Rostov Hippodrome Valeriy Ovcharov opened new racing season. K. Rachalovskiy said, Events like this should take place in each district, each stanitsa should have their own schools and horse-breeding so that children and young people could engage in horse racing. We should multiply the sport achievements of the Don and Budenniy horse breeds. About 70 horses participated in nine races. The horses were of saddle breeds from Republic of Adygeya, Republic of Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Tatarstan, Volgograd and Rostov regions, Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol and Krasnodar regions. Participants from Volgograd region, Republic of Tatarstan, Republic of Kalmykia and Karachay-Cherkessia won half of prizes, while the other half was awarded to Rostov region representatives. Horses from Orlovskiy and Myasnikovskiy district demonstrated good speed. On the opening day nine senior horses of thoroughbreed, Budenniy breed and high half-breed groups competed for steeple-chase prize Memorial to P.P. Brikel. Most of the distance a thoroughbred light-grey stallion Vashgerd (privately owned by Krivsunov V.V.) and chestnut stallion Barkhat (privately owned by Naumov A.P.) led the race , but after the last hurdles they were beaten by thoroughbred chestnut stallion Eitser (privately owned by Efremov N.N., Myasnikovskiy district, master trainer Chuyko P.N.). The stallion was led by jockey of the 1st category A. Simonov. General Director of Rostov Hippodrome noted, Our hippodrome is the only one in Russia that holds steeple-chase races on a regular basis, and this year we want to relaunch hurdle races a truly spectacular competition.
